Through all these films, I found “Blade Runner” is been acclaimed as the most successful one of his works. Firstly, it’s the first film is been adapted from his novels.
The film “Blade Runner” despite major departures from the original work, Ridley Scott takes a deeply Dick approach.
In the novel, the world has been confused, everything is not general, and people have lost their humanities they even have colder blood than nonhuman group. What’s sort of the world is it? The world is sick. I think that’s the world look like in Dick’s eyes, some human are even worse than a special group of human. However, in Ridley’s film, there is a background with cement and steel, black misty, dark areas, abandoned houses and no ended rains, these are factors of the end of world. The world in Ridley’s movie is same as the world in Dick’s novels, there is no belief, no socialism, people who live under are dispirited and loss their target and they only live like mediocrity.
The scenes in the film is gorgeous, it gives viewers a very strong impact. It is not the best Philip K. Dick adaptation, but also one of the finest ever mad. Dick said Blade Runner has enormous impact in the future, whatever in the public or to people who are among in creating their works. Even though, the film was not very successful, but in later provoked a strong reaction. In the film, it’s not just a dark sort of fantasy story, it’s more about the full intend and philosophy of human nature and the scrip of itself.

I would like to point out that Total Recall is being remade by Len Wiseman (famous for Underworld) and is due for release in 2012. It contains some big-name stars such as Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Colin Farrel, Ethan Hawke and Bill Nighy. The script has been penned by Mark Bomback, known for Die Hard 4, Deception and Unstoppable. I think that this will be a high earning remake, as the original was popular and there havent been any good sci-fi releases lately. However, 2012 is also the year The Hobbit prt 1 and Tin Tin will be released, so I wonder how it will fare. I personally do not believe this is a movie that should have been remade but it appears that Hollywood keep running out of ideas, and remaking old great films on a massive budget (then subsequently forget the script and go CGI crazy - looking at you King Kong!)
ReplyDeleteA good response on the critical success of Blade Runner. Interestingly we used to use it as the screening (alongside the novel it was adapted from "Do androids dream of electric sheep") in Pop genres - but the students didn't seem to get it. Interesting comments from Helen.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see how many of his novel's have been used in such big films. And when looking at the list of films you can see that they all relate to Dick's central idea's of darkness, confused identities or different world's. As people have come to critique Dick's literature film companies are willing to pay big money for the use of his work. And as people come to realise how big these films are and how many are depictions of Dick's work do people finally acknowledge Dick's talents.

ReplyDeleteI love “Blade Runner” so much. I think the Dick’s imagination is amazing; I could not image how he can build up such a world between androids and human. Just the kill and love between androids and human led to ruminations on self-awareness and reality. This film reflects that Dick’s is a science fiction genius.
it's no doubt that he is talent. when I looked at the theory of his works. I only can understand a little. It's amazing that he could think a one thing from a very unusual angle
